City Grass Cutting

The Parks Maintenance & Operations team is responsible for grass cutting at:

  • Recreation Facilities
  • City Parklands
  • Sports Fields
  • Greenbelts
  • Turf Islands
  • Areas along guiderails

The City does not maintain the grass on private properties. Grass concerns on private property are the responsibility of the property owner. If you would like to report a property for excessive growth of the grass or weeds, refer to Report Excessive Growth/Weeds on Private Property for a By-Law Officer to investigate.

Additional Information:

  • There are 14 cuts scheduled for the 2024 season, two more than in previous years.
  • The average cutting height is three inches.
  • Dandelions may appear within 24 to 48 hours after an area has been cut, due to the natural weed growth rate.
  • To support and preserve development of healthy ecosystems, certain recognized valleys, stormwater management ponds and “No Mow” zones in subdivisions are not to be maintained and are to be left in natural condition. These areas contribute to the overall health of the environment.

Reminder to Residents:

  • Maintain and keep lawns trimmed to eight inches or shorter.
  • Remove any stagnant water from your yard as they are a hotspot for mosquitos to breed.
  • As per the Region of Peel, grass clippings are no longer accepted at the curb or at any Peel Community Recycling Centre.
